NBC Will Begin Broadcasting Season 3 of Drama on Fridays (9-10 p.m. ET) Starting Soon After the Network’s Telecast of the Super Bowl in 2009; New Episodes of Critically Acclaimed Drama Will Be Broadcast on DIRECTV Beginning in October

NBC, Universal Media Studios and DIRECTV — the nation’s leading satellite television provider — have formed a bold, multi-platform partnership to launch a third season of the critically acclaimed drama series, “Friday Night Lights,” to be broadcast initially on DIRECTV and subsequently telecast on NBC later in the 2008-09 season.

NBC would begin broadcasting the Season 3 episodes of the Peabody Award-winning drama on Fridays (9-10 p.m. ET), starting soon after NBC’s telecast of the Super Bowl in 2009. DIRECTV would have exclusive rights to the season’s 13 new episodes beginning Wednesday, October 1 on DIRECTV’s entertainment channel “The 101.”

“It’s not final, but it’s close.”

That’s the latest I’m hearing on NBC’s on-the-bubble, fan-favorite series Friday Night Lights—that the deal for season three is “nearly done” (a deal that would bring FNL to both NBC and DirecTV in the fall).

I’m also hearing that castmembers’ agents and managers are being told it’s looking “likely” that the show will come back this fall for…13 episodes.

Yes, it seems FNL may be on a probationary period for season three (awaiting pickup of the back nine episodes), but fear not! With the new eyeballs coming to the series via DirecTV, and the new attention to the show via the kickass fanpaigns to save it, surely the ratings will improve and FNL will get a full season. So if you ask me, this is all good news! Or rather, it will be good news…If they’d only finalize everything and announce it.

Perhaps it’s just my wishful thinking, but what the hey, I’m gonna toss this out to the universe (ahem, Ben Silverman). It certainly would be a very good thing for an announcement on Friday Night Lights’ pickup to come out today or tomorrow, since the cast will be hitting the Paley Television Festival tomorrow night, and that’s the perfect opportunity to get some nice, happy, NBC-loving press and to celebrate with the fans.

(Speaking of, if you have any Q’s for the FNL cast or producer Jason Katims, please email them to tvdiva@eonline.com! If you have a special message for Taylor Kitsch, get in line.) (source)

Watch with Kristin posted a new interview with Taylor that was taped at the MT&R presents an Evening with “Friday Nights Lights” event back in January. Taylor talks about what he’s been up to since the show went on hiatus. I have added caps and the clip to the site.

Friday Night Lights Renewal Rumor: It’s (Pretty Much) True!

There’s no deal… yet.

That’s what my sources over at the Peacock are telling me in response to a Deadline Hollywood Daily story claiming NBC has picked up Friday Night Lights after partnering with DirecTV. That said, the buzz is that an agreement has been reached and is essentially just awaiting a signature. To which I say, Ohymygodthankyoujesus!

What would an NBC/DirecTV combo look like? I’m not 100 percent certain, but I’m guessing it would be similar to the Law & Order: CI deal NBC brokered with USA, only in this case, FNL would first air on an exclusive DirecTV channel followed by an encore broadcast on NBC. (source)
